Housing Stability in Boston's Metrowest Suburbs
When people look for a job they often ask about the company’s employee retention rates, yet I’ve never had a home buyer ask me about retention rates in a particular town when they’re trying to decide where to live. I find such statistics interesting. After all, it would seem to be at least an indicator of people’s happiness with the area.
Thus, I was pleased to find some nifty statistics at Boston.com listing the “residential turnover” (in other words, how long people stay in the same locale.) The below chart lists residential turnover rates for many of Boston’s metrowest suburbs.
While housing turnover rates can be due to a number of factors such as increased workforce mobility rather than lack of desirability of an area, residential turnover rates are worth noting when considering various communities. Studies show that “place attachment” has a positive impact on individuals by helping to build more cohesive neighborhoods.
